Child and Youth
During their developmental years, children and youth will experience many changes as they traverse the modern challenges of becoming adults. Navigating these transitions can sometimes be painful and confusing, leading to emotional struggles affecting their well-being and mental health.

Children and youth are simultaneously experiencing both the development of their bodies and brains. Though our bodies reach maturity during the teenage years, our brains do not fully develop until age 25. This gap between our physical and emotional development can be especially difficult for children and youth. Children and teenagers can be vulnerable to external and internal pressures to act before realizing their decisions' consequences.

Supporting Physical and Emotional Development

Children are often affected by marital conflict, separation, and divorce. They are also subject to peer pressure in person and online with friends. Children often need structure and guidance from parents and adults to feel safe and secure daily as they mature and develop physically and mentally.

Establishing an identity outside the family unit is a massive part of the teen experience. As peer relationships become increasingly important, relationships within the family are impacted as teens face social pressures to fit in with others and societal and academic pressures.

Navigating Family and Social Pressures with Therapy

Therapy for teenagers aims to support teens with everyday struggles such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation/attempts, eating disorders, bullying, body image/confidence, social skills, identity development, and experimentation with drugs, sex, and alcohol.

Children up to age 13 always counsel online with their parent or caregiver involved to foster communication and support in the family unit. Teenagers can have individual sessions or be part of Family Therapy sessions according to their goals and development needs.

Our children and youth are such a gift to us as adults. Their future success, socially, emotionally, and physically, is essential to us. Best Therapy for You has registered Psychotherapists trained to support children and teenagers as they find a clear foundation through which they can enjoy these precious years of their lives.
